Two Three Gorges Officials Fall After Explosive Dam Leak Revelations

On July 21, the day after the news of multiple leaks at the bottom of the Three Gorges Dam and the Hengzhou flood in Guangxi killing as many as 170 million people was leaked, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CCP released a statement saying that Wu Qiren（吴启仁）, General Manager of the Guangxi Branch of China Three Gorges Corporation, is “suspected of serious violations of discipline and law” and is under investigation.

Today (July 24), the CCP's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced: "a case has been filed for review and investigation into the serious violations of discipline and law by Wu Changyu (吴长宇), former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Yunnan Energy Investment Co., Ltd. of China Three Gorges Corporation.” It immediately announced that Wu Changyu has been expelled from the Party and from public office.

At the same time, internal personnel from the Three Gorges continued to leak information to Luo Xiang , saying: “After the last leak of materials, Beijing was furious and began purging the hydropower system. The chairman and the top one or two leaders in various places have already been controlled. Everyone is on edge, it’s like a state of martial law. This is a purge of the hydropower system following the purge of the military system. Total annihilation is the result; the process doesn’t matter. Wu Changyu’s news was announced today. Judging from these follow-up messages, the possibility of problems with the Three Gorges Dam is rapidly increasing. Otherwise, why did Wu Qiren and Wu Changyu immediately get into trouble the very next day and on the fourth day after the news was leaked?

According to publicly available information, Wu Qiren was born in 1972 and is relatively young. He has long worked in the Three Gorges Group system, successively serving as Director of the Science and Technology Environmental Protection Department of Three Gorges New Energy, General Manager of the Engineering Management Department, and Chief Engineer.

He also held positions such as Party Committee member, Deputy General Manager, and Chief Engineer at the listed company Three Gorges Energy.

In October 2023, due to a job change, Wu Qiren resigned as Deputy General Manager of Three Gorges Energy.

After that, he took up positions including General Manager of the Guangxi Branch of China Three Gorges Corporation and Secretary of the Party General Branch of the Guangxi Branch of Three Gorges Energy.

Two days ago, four simulation images of the instantaneous collapse of the Three Gorges Dam were leaked. An insider revealed that Wu Qiren is very eloquent and often spills internal information at various dinner parties, including details such as a mother tying herself and her three children together with a rope, only for all of them to die; hundreds of corpses stuck in a recirculating bend; and many more still underwater, and so on.

Currently, there is not much information available about Wu Changyu. It is only known that he holds a master’s degree in engineering and is a senior engineer. His main career experience (in chronological order) is as follows:

After the preparatory group was established in 2020, he served as Deputy Leader of the preparatory group.  

Later served as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive General Manager.

💠Yunnan Energy Investment Co., Ltd. of China Three Gorges Corporation  

After the company was established in November 2020, he served as Director, General Manager, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee (until he was investigated in January 2026).
